ISLAMIC, Mongols. Ilkhanids. Arpa Ke'ün, AH 736 / AD 1335-1336. 2 Dirhams (Silver, 19 mm, 2.78 g), Tabriz(?), AH 736 = 1335/6. In a circle within a hexagram, ‘lā ilāha illā Allāh / Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); the names of the four Rashidun Caliphs around, ʾAli is repeated three times. Rev. Within a circle, ‘al-sulṭān al-aʿẓam / al-aʿdal Maḥmūd / Ārbā Khān khallada / Allāh Mulkuhū’ (‘The supreme and the justest Sultan Mahmud Arpa Khan. May Allah perpetuate his kingdom’ in Arabic); Mint and date formula in the margin. Album 2221D. Diler Arb-689 (Aksaray mint). Extremely rare. Struck slightly off center and with cleaning scratches, otherwise, good very fine.
